At that time, there were no height requirements for drivers, so anyone could join the sport if they were able to meet the physical demands required by the track. Waltrip was the first to break the 6-foot mark, driving for Bill Davis over 20 years ago. Of these, only Gordon still drives for the same team today (he replaced Waltrip at the beginning of the 2004 season).
There have been many famous drivers in NASCAR history, but only three were actually '6 feet or taller': Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt. The most recent addition to the sport's biggest team is 7'3' Josh Milburn, who recently signed on with Richard Childress Racing. He's currently the NASCAR champion and also owns several record heights of his own (see below). The tallest active driver in any series is Jimmie Johnson at 6'3'. There is presently no full-time driver taller than 6'1' 'during the Sprint Cup season.
Dale Jarrett, Stever Park, Robert Pressley, Elliott Sadler, and Kyle Petty are all 6'2' taller than Michael Waltrip '.
